NORTH CHANNEL CINEMATICS

A solution pipeline for cinema—building workflows, talent, and real production capacity.

About us

North Channel Cinematics is a project-based film training and production organization based in Ottawa, Canada.

It is rooted in North Channel Productions, founded in 2002, and re-imagined in 2025 to reflect how film work is actually learned and practiced today: through real projects, real crews, and real working environments.

North Channel Cinematics focuses on applied training, limited production work, and partnerships that grow out of place and practice rather than scale. Programs and projects are developed as needed, in response to people, locations, and opportunities already in motion.

The name comes from the North Channel of Georgian Bay—a working passage that connects communities and histories, valued for movement and continuity rather than arrival.
North Channel Cinematics is intentionally small and project-led, with activity shared as the work unfolds.

VETS ON SET

Vets on Setâ„¢ is an applied film training initiative created for military veterans transitioning into civilian work.

The program is co-founded by Jeremy Atherton and his brother, Andrew Atherton, whose career in the Canadian Armed Forces brings direct experience in leadership, operations, and service-to-civilian transition. Together, they designed Vets on Set to translate military strengths into practical, on-set skills.

Vets on Set introduces veterans to professional film sets through structured, hands-on learning that reflects how crews actually work. The focus is on clear roles, chain of command, safety, teamwork, and problem-solving—familiar terrain for veterans, applied in a new industry.
The program is project-based and work-integrated. Participants learn by supporting real departments, working alongside experienced crew, and understanding the day-to-day rhythm of a live set.
